Women 1st | #StartupSeptember’s In-person Event

WOMEN 1st! —#StartupSeptember’s In-person Event

Sativa Media is excited to host its first in-person event as part of  #StartupSeptember on 24th September 2022. Focusing on SDG 5: Gender Equality, the event aims to bring sensitivity towards the impact of gender inequality in achieving the SDGs.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a collection of 17 integrated and interrelated goals, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly, “as a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030 all people enjoy peace and prosperity.”

SDG 5 focuses on Gender Equality and calls for efforts to empower all women and girls. Gender bias undermines our social fabric and devalues every human being. “By denying women equal rights, we deny half the population a chance to live at its fullest.”, quotes The Global Goals.

SDG 5 has nine targets:

1. End discrimination against women and girls.

2. End all violence against and exploitation of women and girls.

3. Eliminate forced marriages and genital mutilation.

4. Value unpaid care and promote shared domestic responsibilities.

5. Ensure full participation in leadership and decision-making.

6. Universal access to reproductive health and rights.

7. Equal rights to economic resources, property ownership, and financial services.

8. Promote empowerment of women through technology.

9. Adopt and strengthen policies and enforceable legislation for gender equality.

WOMEN 1st!—a #StartupSeptember Initiative

Not only is gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls an SDG in itself, but is also a crucial step in achieving the other 16 SDGs. Any effort to encourage sustainable growth must prioritise the health and well-being of women and girls. In addition to being a fundamental human right, gender equality is also a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world.

WOMEN 1st! is a by invite-only, in-person event being organised under #StartupSeptember with the aim of starting conversations on and bringing sensitivity towards the impact of gender inequality in achieving the SDGs.

The event will see the launch of a report WOMEN 1st! Championing Women: The Crucial Piece To Achieving The SDGs, that focuses on 5 key areas that need our attention and effort if we wish to achieve the SDGs. These are health, education, climate change, workforce, and economy.

Post the report launch, women working in these 5 areas will share the learnings, findings, and impact of their businesses while throwing light on how the act of Championing Women allowed the women themselves to make a powerful impact in their communities. To attend RSVP here.
